YarakuZen Company Plan · API

The Alibaba Group, which boasts overwhelming trading volumes on EC sites, such as "Taobao" and "Tall Mall", utilizing the enormous data collection cultivated through online mail order and search sites, etc., while also increasing international presence in the cloud market.
Mr. Matsumi Matsumoto and Mr. Mami Kono of SB Cloud Co., Ltd. / Product Planning & Development Department · Operation Planning Division, Mr. Masami Kono, Mr. Shinzo Abe, Marketing Planning Department, talked about the possibilities of the cloud market.

- First of all, could you describe your company?
We established a joint venture between SOFTBANK and Alibaba Group which is one of the world's largest e-commerce companies, and we are developing a public cloud service at the data center established in Japan, mainly for customers in Japan using "Alibaba Cloud".
Alibaba Cloud is the third largest IaaS provider in the world and the largest public cloud provider in China. The service for Japan started from December 2016.

A large amount of translation challenges such as websites and manuals

- It is somehow incredible. Then, what is the strength of your company?
The Alibaba Group operates the EC site "Taobao (Taobao)" and "T-Mall (Ten cat)" and the world's largest online shopping event "Single Day (Nov 11)." And it features scalability and robust security that can handle that large volume of orders.

- So what is the need for translation and how did you introduce YarakuZen?
In order to develop overseas services in Japan, it is necessary to make a huge amount of translation, such as websites and manuals.
Although translation work is always problematic, since it relied on translation by human beings in the past, the burden of time and cost is heavy. As a result I was considering machine translation, and a company which had just dispatched an in-house translator introduced YarakuZen . Naturally we tried other companies' services, but we finally decided to introduce YarakuZen.

YarakuZen phrase registration, sharing decisive.

- What was YarakuZen's deciding factor?
Firstly, that you can register the whole phrase by both the members who used it and by the translation manager. It is good to be able to leave all the translation history.
Besides, in addition to machine, human translation can also be used in parallel (ordering directly from the screen). It is also advantageous to use word or excel without breaking the format and use it as it is, but I think that PowerPoint is considerably user-friendly especially in English → Chinese, Chinese → English. Actually some of them could not be translated successfully until around November of last year, but it seems to have improved since this year.

Reduce 1/3 of the labor compared to human-only.

- After the release of the revised version, when you actually introduced YarakuZen, how was working efficiency?
Although there is no detailed data, it seems that one-third is reduced when compared with a human-only translation.

- If you have any future possibilities or requests, please feel free to share.
For example, it is somewhat useful, but there is a bug where half-width parenthesis "(" is converted to full-width parenthesis because somehow it is converted to double brackets, so I would like to improve that; saving in PDF if it can use the format as well.
Nonetheless, since the current functions are already very useful, I would like to recommend it to other teams within the company, such as the sales department and technical department, and I would like to consider whether it can be used as an API.
